MacOS Sonoma Vs Ventura – Sonoma Totally Changes The Game For Mac Users

MacOS Sonoma–the latest major release of Apple’s operating system, was released earlier on September 26, 2023 which includes a number of major changes that are expected to improve the overall macOS ecosystem and productivity as compared to previous MacOS Ventura– was released on October 20, 2022. Back then, It was also considered a major move by Apple. So, technically, these significant changes made the MacOS eco-system a very versatile, and user-friendly operating system. But since Sonoma, is loaded with many features that were missing Ventura, we have given it a detailed run-down and made a feat-to-feat comparison of both. By first addressing the features of new release MacOS Sonoma and then going about Ventura.  i )Introduction of Widgets 

As compared to the previous release, Ventura; one of the biggest changes in macOS Sonoma is come up with is the introduction of widgets– its a new concept. So these widgets are small, interactive windows that could be placed on the desktop to provide quick access to information and functionality. For example, we could add widgets to display the weather, news, calendar events, and more. Widgets could be customized in size and position, and could be grouped together to create a personalized dashboard. 

ii) Sonoma For Gaming

Another major change in macOS Sonoma is the introduction of Game Mode which is huge as the market for this has been growing very fast. The Game Mode optimizes the system for gaming performance by prioritizing CPU and GPU resources for games, in general. This could result in smoother gameplay and improved frame rates. Game Mode also includes features such as a reduced latency mode and support for high refresh rate displays. So if we see it in a larger picture, for gaming dudes, this feature totally makes it very favorable.

i)- Introduction of Stage Manager 

It was a new window management feature that helped users to stay focused on their current task. It groups windows together and automatically minimizes inactive windows. This makes it easy to switch between tasks and to keep your workspace organized.

 ii)- New Camera Feature

Ventura came with a new camera feature —Continuity Camera. It allowed users to use iPhone as a webcam for their Mac. This is great for video calls, live streaming, and creating content. Continuity Camera also included a number of features that were not available on built-in webcams, such as Center Stage, Portrait mode, and Studio Light.

iii)- Universal Control

Universal Control was also included in the Ventura release last-year which allowed users to use single keyboard and mouse for controlling multiple Macs and iPads. That was great for users who had multiple devices and who wanted to be able to switch between them seamlessly.

 One major change was introduced toMail, Messages, and Safari in macOS Ventura that made them more powerful and user-friendly. For example, new mail included undo send and scheduled send features while the Messages included SharePlay and collaboration features, and Safari included tab groups and tab previews.

Here is a more detailed comparison of some of the key features that Sonoma comes with which were not in Ventura MacOS:

Game Mode— Game Mode is a new feature in macOS Sonoma which of course makes entire MacOS very suitable and favorable for the gamers, that was not the case when Ventura was released. So, like we mentioned earlier that automatically gives gamers top priority on the GPU and the CPU running on this operating system, lowering usage for background tasks. It also dramatically reduces latency with wireless accessories, like AirPods and your favorite controllers, for responsiveness you could feel. That was not the case when Ventura was released last year.

Safari Upgraded-— When Ventura was released, Safari was slightly improved and now even faster and more efficient in macOS Sonoma, with improved battery life and performance. Besides, Sonoma also has various new features, such as a new tab design, a new privacy dashboard, and the ability to create and share custom tab groups, that entirely makes it 100% times more productive for everyone than the previous release –Ventura. Although it came with surprising new features but now with the passage of time the new MacOS was due and they have delivered that with much balance and greater improvements on every single step. 

New Messages features—Sonoma also has a new upgrade when it coems to sending  messages as it now includes much more, such as the ability to edit and delete our sent messages, and also mark messages as unread. It also includes a new ShareSheet that makes it easy to share content from other apps to Messages.

Updated Notes app— The Notes app has been updated with a new design and a number of new features in macOS Sonoma, like now we can create and share tables, and the ability to add tags to notes.

New Live Text features—  So now in macOS Sonoma the live Text could now be used to recognize text in videos and images. We can also use it to translate text into different languages.

We can see Sonoma MacOS is a clear winner here, although Ventura was a great upgrade but with Sonoma we get much more and honestly we simply love the gaming upgrade. We will discuss many other features in the next posts soon.
