Top iOS Apps and Games This Week (12/07/2015)

We are back again, offering you up the best iOS Apps and Games you can download this week. This post will be weekly and will highlight the best apps and games you may not have found yet. These will not only include the biggest and best new apps to the App Store but also previously well-known applications that received notable updates, improving them significantly. This week we have: a new task manager that incorporates with Evernote, a Hearthstone competitor, a fan-favourite keyboard and a huge Indie PC game comes to iOS.
Swipes (Free)
Swipes is a great task manager application that has been around for a little while but recently received an update to now support all iOS devices, not just iPhones. Swipes uses a simple ‘Do Later’, ‘To-Do’, ‘Done’ system in which you swipe between the three modes. This allows you to ensure your tasks are set for either a future date, kept in your main eye-line in the ‘To-Do’ section or you can even see what tasks you’ve completed. Swipes also allows you to get notifications and set the status of your tasks on your Apple watch too, making it a great application for all devices. Swipes’ main feature is the ability to synchronise with Evernote to import tasks you’ve set in Evernote over to your Swipes application too.
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition ($4.99)
Don’t Starve is a game that received a lot of praise and a lot of YouTube attention upon its release. It’s a game that has you trying to survive as many different nights in a fantasy wasteland, building fires, keeping yourself well fed and many more survival needs. A quirky little thing within the game is that you have to shave every now and then too to stop yourself for going insane. It’s a game that requires a lot of patience, a lot of time and maybe a little bit of a guide and walkthrough to help you work out all the recipes. However, it’s a game that keeps you very involved and wanting to keep your character alive as long as you possibly can. Don’t Starve may offer a steep asking price but it is a game that has been fully fleshed out and will definitely keep you entertained for weeks on end if you are willing to keep trying and learning the game.
Magic Duels (Free)
Magic: The Gathering is one of the oldest and greatest card games that definitely influenced arguably the biggest game in the world right now, Hearthstone. Therefore, it’s great to finally see the game come to mobile with Magic Duels. Magic looks to bring the classic Magic: The Gathering game to the mobile platform, allowing players and fans of the series to challenge through a single player campaign and also play their friends. With promised updates and new cards being introduced, it’s a game that could definitely produce a threat to the likes of Hearthstone which currently dominates the CCG gaming market. Magic Duels is currently free, offering the ability to buy card packs and, we assume, like Hearthstone, additional storylines or DLC in the future.
Fleksy (Free)
New keyboards are something that Apple tried to introduced with the introduction of iOS8. A lot of keyboards haven’t really seen the success that they would have liked. SwiftKey being one of the biggest keyboards on Android and not receiving the same luck on iOS. Fleksy is the latest addition to update its application to be Free and to support the iPad. Fleksy is a keyboard that prides itself on fast typing, minimalism and, recently at least, it’s great extension support for GIFs and such. Fleksy offers plenty of different themes including Hunger Games themes, different colours and even Google’s Material colour themes. It’s a great keyboard that offers you a lot of add-ons and customization and also offers a really good typing experience that feels great to use.
Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved ($4.99)
We mentioned Geometry Wars 3 last week on our Android post as being a new introduction to that OS. However, the developers have worked hard to almost double the content of the Geometry Wars 3 and have even given it a name upgrade to ‘Evolved’ to warrant the amount of new content. We felt this update warranted a whole section on this post. The update has brought with it: 40 all-new levels, 5 all-new grids, classic game modes in stunning HD, 4 all-new battle modes, all-new Sweep drone and new “Hardcore” mode. This brings such great content, if you didn’t know whether to invest in this great game before, there’s now also double the content and double the reason to do so.
